MoForNovember took place once again at CentraState. This month-long campaign during November encourages men to grow their facial hair to raise awareness of and funds for men’s health and in particular men’s cancer. A record $10,835 was raised thanks to the 114 participants that took part this year. Members of Howell/Adelphia/Ramtown Fire, Howell, Manalapan and Freehold Borough PD, took part as well as CentraState employees and CentraState Foundation Board Members. The New York Shaving Company, located in Freehold NJ and with locations in New York City, sponsored the campaign and brought one of their master barbers from Brooklyn to provide a complimentary shave to some of the participants at the end of the event for the shave off.
Barry Asch, Assistant VP for Cancer Services at the Statesir Cancer Center at CentraState, thanked each person for participating, noting that the funds raised will help CentraState in its efforts to reach out to the community and offer services that will allow men to live healthier lives.
In addition to the men who participated, Alison Cleary, Manager of Population Health at CentraStates’ Health Awareness Center took part to show her support for those who might be suffering hair loss as a result of treatment. She shared that she suffered from hair loss several years ago as a result of taking prescribed medication and says ‘while I no longer need medication and my hair has grown back, I decided to keep my ‘bio hair’ short and continue to “rock my faux hair all day, every day”. She went on to say “by sharing my story and participating in the shave off, I want to not only support awareness of men’s health, but also help men and women who may be considering – or wearing – wigs to feel more self-assured. Faux hair is fabulous!”
VISA gift cards and a basket donated by The New York Shaving Company were raffled off to lucky recipients.
